Relaxation was the
theme for today. We spent many hours reading books and sipping cider at the
lakefront while the children played with their friends. We updated our facebook
pages and caught up on current affairs in the news online.
We also spent an
hour washing the car. What a job - the red dust was caked everywhere and the
water was orange and full of red mud. It isn't perfect and it will get dirty
again but Rob feels so much better about his car now that she is clean again.
Later in the morning
we ventured out to the Zebra Rock Gallery where we marvelled at the polished
rock creations of the resident artisans. I bought a pair of earrings to match
the necklace my mother gave me last year, which she bought here more than 30 years
ago.
We were each given a
slice of bread and walked down to a jetty at the riverside where an enormous
school of catfish and a few archer fish made the water boil, climbing over each
other in anticipation of the morsels to come. They were fantastic to watch and
we even saw some of the archer fish spit water at the bread. Some resident
cockatoos, rehabilitated and un-releasable due to injuries, entertained us with
their chatter and crazy dancing antics, especially one named
"Captain". He was 'journal standard' according to Ashley and Emma.
Lunch was at
Celebrity Tree Park, where many trees have been planted by various
'celebrities' over the years since the late 1980's. Rob and I wandered through
the gardens reading the plaques while the kids played in a sandpit and local
playground. Amongst the tree planters were John Farnham, James Blundell, Alby
Mangels, Quentin Bryce and Nova Peris.
Mirima National Park
was a bit of a let down after the Bungle Bungle, especially as their lookout
walk was closed. So we went to Kelly's Knob lookout instead for a view of the
town and the surrounding irrigation areas and orchards. Finally we drove to Ivanhoe
Crossing. Very pretty with fast flowing water, so fast that it was closed to
cars, much to Rob's disappointment.
Back in the caravan park we relaxed again. Aaah, the serenity.
And BATS!
